The LOUIS HERMAN ISRAEL EXPERIENCE FUND (LHIEF) provides grants that help Minneapolis teenagers travel to Israel. The fund was designed to give Jewish teens an incentive to get involved in Minneapolis Jewish community. Minneapolis residents between the ages of 15 and 18 who are registered for a qualifying Israel Experience are eligible for a LHIEF grant of up to $1000. |

There are numerous programs to Israel to choose from anywhere
from 1 week and up to 4 months in length. The LHIEF provides
a base grant calculated according to the duration of the program of your
choice. This is not a needs based grant. If you are in need of additional
funding assistance you can apply for up to five merit grants of $50 each,
awarded based on past or current involvement in the following categories
of Jewish activities.
- youth group involvement
- communal organization volunteer work
- formal Jewish education
- camping experience
- communal work experience

Teens who receive grants will be asked to volunteer in the Jewish community upon their return, as a way to "give back" and share their experience with others.
St. Paul residents are not eligible for LHIEF grants. If you live in the St. Paul area, click here to learn about Passport to Israel and the Israel Experience Scholarship.
